We present a microwave-solvothermal approach for producing nickeltitanate supported platinum nanostructured electrocatalysts of high crystallinity and uniformity as anode materials for methanol oxidation processes in direct methanol fuel cells. The crystal structure of Pt-NiTiO3 electrocatalyst was characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis, microstructure was analysed by transmission electron microscope and the Raman spectra was deployed to analyse the vibration mode of the NiTiO3 support materials. The electrochemical studies were validated to confirm the oxidation properties of the catalyst and stability of the support material using CV, polarization resistance and chronoamperometry. While comparing the results of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy with cyclic voltammetry, both reveals a good correlation. The conclusion on studying the Pt-NiTiO3 active support materials as electrocatalyst for methanol oxidation reaction shows markedly improved electrochemical activity as well as stability, evidenced with the highest current density of 266 mA/cm2. |
